This is My Dream Home

Stunning Renovation in Sydney's Vaucluse By Hess Hoen~

If I lived in Sydney, this is the area I'd want to be. This is the house I'd want to live in! Every time we are in Sydney, we have to take the mandatory drive through the lush and elite suburb, just so that I can drool. Vaucluse is a mainly residential suburb on the water. For many years, it was the most affluent suburb in Sydney (now it is Hermit Bay). In terms of houses and properties, it is still in the top five most expensive suburbs. Vaucluse is located 5 miles north-east of downtown Sydney.

Now about the house! The Hermitage, as the home is named, was built in 1831, and has been owned by the Hemmes family (click that one....a very interesting family) since 1974. In 2011, Justin Hemmes, head of the Merivale hospitality group, moved back into the family’s heritage-listed estate and started renovations with Brian Hess, of Sydney firm Hess Hoen,  who oversaw the structural work and interior design. The overall vision for the project was to preserve the building’s integrity but open it up to allow light and an organic flow through the 2500 sq ft space. The owner was keen to preserve the spirit of the home while reflecting his personal style with a bright, open and distinctly Mediterranean feeling. This truly is my favorite home.
