Sweet Moroccan Style Retreat in Palm Springs

Korakia Pensione is a Mediterranean Moroccan Resort in the Southern California desert. The resort, has two lovingly restored historic villas that rests on 1.5 lush acres, consisting of bungalows, guesthouses, gardens and pools. In 1924 it was built as a residence and was named Del Marrco by Scottish painter Gordon Coutts who recreated the ambience of his earlier life in Tangier. His American wife refused to move to Morocco so he built this home for her. It became a popular gathering place for musicians, artists and celebrities such as Rudolph Valentino, Errol Flynn and it was rumored that Winston Churchhill painted Artist Suite, one of the current guest rooms. Many of Coutt's original architectural details, from a hand-carved Afghani door to Tangier tiles, are still intact.

In 1989, Del Marroc was renamed Korakia (Greek for 'crow') and the villas became a stunning unique getaway. Despite being close to downtown Palm Springs, the Korakia proves to be quiet and peaceful. It's a popular place for weddings and events so book in advance. They have a LOT of amenities, like yoga, spa services, bocce ball, poolside lounging, afternoon tea, and outdoor movies. It's a perfect weekend getaway for us Southern Californians.
