Beautiful Bali

Set among picturesque green rice fields in Bali is a stunning holiday home shared between good friends, Danish designer Birgitte Raben and Australian interior designer Lisa Taffin. Friends for more than a decade with a common aesthetic and love of design, they decided to build a house together that they could each use as a part-time base when in Indonesia creating and manufacturing their independent fashion and interiors collections, Rabens Saloner and Smoke 48. The designers wanted their home to have an openness and sense of space, as indicated by the double-height ceiling in the living room.

A custom-made iron screen adds flair. The owners designed the lighting installation in the hallway. The living room has a loft-like feel with seven-metre-high ceilings. Cushions from Rabens Saloner on the sofa add colour and pattern. The handmade netting on the wall was custom dyed. Bamboo chairs and pots from Rabens Saloner. The dining area and kitchen have cement flooring which is tinted green. An unusual staircase handrail makes a bold statement in the adjacent white living room. Table, chairs and cupboard from Rabens Saloner. The master bedroom looks over the rice paddies framed by iron windows.Opened up, these doors blur the lines between indoors and out.A mirror designed by Lisa for Smoke 48 hangs in the master bedroom reflecting the picturesque outlook.A Balinese-style cement bathroom is softened with bamboo towel rails and ornamental displays.Mosquito netting adds a tropical vibe to the downstairs guest bedroom adjacent to the garden. The swimming pool sparkles against the brilliant green of the rice paddies beyond. A triangular-shaped lounging platform is the perfect spot for catching the sunset.
