Here are some ideas on how to make a small kitchen workable. To give a feeling of space, create contrasts in colors and luminosity. Don’t hesitate to play with materials like brick, glossy paint, wood and plain white. If your kitchen is very small, you can use built-in furniture and appliances. There are plenty of ways you can expand the footprint of a teeny tiny kitchen. Another way to do this is with rolling industrial shelving. It can look especially nice in a minimal, modern kitchen.

Most small kitchens are in a U shape but the advantage to that is that everything is within reach and is considered one of the best working models for a cooks kitchen. I've seen many gorgeous looking, expensive, large, well-equipped kitchens where the microwave was the only appliance ever used.
