Budget Breakdown for a Small Kitchen Remodel

This family home in Pittsburgh is more than 90 years old and even though it is full of character, it's even more in need of a complete redo. The challenges for these homeowners were: the small 9×9 footprint, the outdated electrical, the radiator in the corner, no dishwasher, the in-swinging door that took up too much space, the lack of counter space and the over all aesthetics.

Here is the 'before and after' with all the good stuff below....

And then there were a lot of materials, tools and decor that they purchased for the kitchen themselves. But for the sake of an accurate budget breakdown, for those that want to recreate the look, I’m putting the true costs of everything in this post.Some would call this a 'save and splurge' kitchen, but even the splurges were budget conscious. The owners were very intentional in stretching every dollar as far as they could, while still keeping things looking high end. That's my favorite way to do it. Here’s how it breaks down:

12″ x 24″ Luxury Vinyl Tile in Belmont $5.39/sq ft x 85 = $4592″ x 4″ Porcelain Subway Tile in White $3.38/sq ft x 97 = $328Unsanded Grout in Silverado $65Frigidaire Professional Dishwasher $699Ikea Sektion cabinet boxes and interior fittings and drawers $1517Semihandmade Super Matte Gray drawer fronts, doors, filler pieces, side panels and toe kicks $2764 (big expense but well worth it)Bridge Faucet in Vintage Brass $217DOMSJÖ single bowl apron front sink $185Espresso bamboo blinds $35/ea x 2 = $70Vintage rug $280Art $56Chandelier $109

Subtotal: $6749

Frigidaire Professional Counter-Depth Refrigerator $2298Cabinet Knobs $9 x 20 = $180Crown Molding $65Paint for back door (Dutch Boy Anchoring Neutral) $12Microwave $109

Subtotal: $2664

Sconces $275 x 3 = $825

Subtotal: $4451

Besides the electrical, the owners were able to save money on doing all the other work themselves and the smaller 9×9 footprint helped, too. Less than $14K for all new appliances, cabinets, flooring, backsplash, lighting, hardware, countertops, sink and faucet. Basically everything you’d need to actually make your kitchen look like this.

TOTAL = $13,864
